THE AURORA BOREALIS FESTIVAL
-
The Challenge: To transform a city-wide initiative into a cohesive "brand world" that invigorates the Denver-metro community during the off-season. The goal was to build an immersive, high-energy visual identity that felt both elevated and accessible to a diverse audience of 15,000+ annual attendees.
The Vision I developed a "Modern Pop" brand strategy centered on emotional resonance and visual storytelling. By utilizing a high-chroma palette and bold typography, I created a signature identity that mirrors the vibrant, shifting nature of the Aurora Borealis while maintaining a professional connection to the overarching Visit Aurora brand.
Strategic Execution: Engineered a scalable visual language including custom logo marks, brand guide, photo strategy, and typography.
Brand World Building: Translated high-level strategy into a 360° experience across digital, print, and environmental touchpoints.
Community Impact: Designed for maximum engagement to foster local pride and drive measurable tourism growth.
-
I spearheaded the visual expression of the 2024 and 2025 festivals, managing the creative lifecycle from pre-production through final delivery. My role focused on elevating the brand’s aesthetic to ensure it felt current, professional, and authentic.
Execution & On-Set Direction
Photo & Video Direction: Led on-site shoots, defining the visual style through strategic shot lists, lighting direction, and casting to capture the "glow" of the event.
Production Management: Managed external photographers, videographers, and contractors to build a comprehensive media library for multi-year storytelling.
Creative Standards: Defined and upheld rigorous standards for typography, color grading, and framing to ensure a "best-in-class" brand presentation.
-
My creative strategy transformed the Aurora Borealis Festival into a premier regional destination. By building a high-impact "brand world," I drove measurable engagement across a diverse audience of 15,000+ annual attendees, successfully establishing the event as a cornerstone of Aurora’s cultural and economic landscape.
Commercial & Strategic Wins
Scalable Success: Developed a "best-in-class" visual system that represented the festival’s core identity while allowing for fresh seasonal evolution.
Multi-Channel Reach: Personally executed high-performance digital ad sets and organic social campaigns that maximized ticket sales and community "hype."
Industry Recognition: The strategic success and visual rigor of my work on this project led to my recognition as a 30 Under 30 honoree in the Destinations International Foundation industry awards in 2025, marking me as a top up-and-coming leader in the field.
Building a brand world from the ground up.
THE VISITOR GUIDE
Curating an experience for residents and visitors alike.
-
The Challenge To evolve a 50+ page annual publication with a 150,000+ copy distribution into an elevated, story-driven lifestyle magazine. The goal was to pivot from a standard informational guide to a "brand-first" narrative that captures the vibrant, modern spirit of the destination.
The Vision As Creative Lead for three consecutive editions (2024–2026), I held complete creative control over the publication’s visual evolution. I synthesized complex editorial requirements into a cohesive brand world, ensuring the visual theme resonated emotionally with readers while maintaining high-end aesthetic standards year-over-year.
-
The Leadership I manage the full creative lifecycle and lead a cross-functional team—including a Junior Designer, Marketing Coordinator, and Director—to ensure every asset aligns with my decisive creative vision.
Shoot Direction & Talent Management
End-to-End Production: I plan and direct all custom photography for the guide’s editorial features, from initial concepting to final post-production review.
Logistics & Casting: I am responsible for hiring contract photographers, coordinating location scouting, and managing model casting to ensure an authentic and "brand-right" look.
Contractor Oversight: I manage a network of external editors and photographers, providing clear, high-level direction to ensure best-in-class results under tight deadlines.
-
The Execution My leadership transformed the Visitors Guide into a high-performance marketing tool. By mastering the balance between "the magic" of creative and the rigor of large-scale print production, I delivered a flawless 360° brand experience across 150,000 physical copies.
Key Wins
Operational Excellence: Engineered sophisticated workflows for complex pagination and ad-space mapping, proving my ability to manage high-volume deliverables without compromising on craft.
Team Growth: Successfully transitioned from solo design execution to a leadership role, raising the bar for the entire creative department through intentional mentorship.
STRATEGIC BRANDING: Community vs. Commerce
Tailoring Visual Identities to Community, Culture, and Commerce
-
The Challenge To build a "source of truth" for two very different worlds: the vibrant, community-focused energy of Visit Aurora and the high-end, detail-oriented space of Cultivate (Corporate Gifting). The goal was to create identity systems that felt premium and professional, yet flexible enough to grow.
The Vision I believe a brand is a living thing. My approach focuses on visual longevity—creating the "rules" (color, type, and tone) that allow a brand to stay consistent whether it’s on a massive billboard or a small gift tag. I bridge the gap between big-picture storytelling and the technical rigor needed to keep it all looking cohesive.
-
The Leadership As the brand guardian for both organizations, I oversee the full creative lifecycle. I lead internal teams and partner with external agencies to ensure every piece of collateral—from a 50-page guide to a premium gift box—feels like it belongs to the same family.
Systems & Execution
Brand Standards: I author the playbooks that define how we show up, ensuring our "voice" is consistent across all channels.
Packaging & Product: I manage how the brand translates to physical objects, focusing on that "premium" feel that corporate gifting and travel demand.
Hands-on Rigor: As an Adobe Certified Professional, I’m just as comfortable in the files as I am directing the strategy, ensuring every deliverable is print-ready and pixel-perfect.
-
The brands I’ve built are consistent, instantly identifiable, and flexible. I create systems that don't break when the team needs to move fast.
The Wins
Bulletproof Systems: Whether a customer sees a gift box in their hand or an ad on their phone, the brand’s "pulse" is unmistakable.
Built-in Flexibility: I’ve created modular libraries that allow us to pivot for seasonal campaigns without losing our core identity.
Team Velocity: By setting clear standards, I’ve helped my teams work faster and smarter without ever losing that "best-in-class" look.
THE “FUN STUFF”
Artistic Influence & The Human Touch
Where brand strategy meets artistic influence.
-
The Heart of the Brand I believe "the fun stuff"—custom illustrations, experimental textures, and bold graphics—is what gives a brand its soul. It’s the human touch that transforms a standard identity into a community-led world.
The Vision Whether it’s an experimental brand study for Merrell, playful assets for Visit Aurora, or my senior capstone on National Park typography, my goal is to push the boundaries. I use these projects to explore how color theory and hand-crafted details create a deeper emotional connection with the outdoor community.
-
Creative Exploration
The Merrell Case Study: A deep-dive into how hand-drawn elements can elevate a heritage outdoor brand for a modern, style-conscious audience.
National Parks Typographic Series: A research-driven project featuring posters where the typography reflects the specific year each park was designated—blending history with modern design.
Illustration: Developing playful graphics for Visit Aurora to break through the digital noise and add a layer of approachability to our campaigns.
The Artistic Edge I lead with a modern-pop aesthetic, using bold color harmonies and artistic grit to ensure every piece of content feels intentional—even when it’s experimental.
-
The result is a brand that feels alive. By incorporating illustrative elements into my work, I’ve proven that artistic play is a powerful tool for driving engagement and building real brand loyalty.
The Wins
Emotional Resonance: My illustrative work provides the "human touch" that makes a brand feel authentic and connected to the person on the other side of the screen.
Visual Distinction: These projects allow for high-impact storytelling that stock photography or standard layouts simply can't achieve.
Strategic Play: Even my most "fun" projects are rooted in rigor—like the typographic history of the National Park Service—ensuring the art always serves the story.
